This is my open letter pitch to you guys on:
-
What Canva means to me, and
-
Why you should hire me
Dear Canva,
1. What Canva means to me.
To me, Canva has always been my design partner: For school projects, working on my business or building a brand.
Canva has constantly helped me improve as a designer by either giving me that hit of inspiration or simply helping my team produce something amazing. But going deeper than that what Canva really means to me is:
Recently, I was invited to Canva’s summer season opener.
But even before then from working at Generation Entrepreneur (sponsored by Canva!) and attending #SheHacks 2019, I already had a great impression of Canva’s focus on impacting others.
But going to that event was even more eye opening. From seeing someone being flown over from America to test out a feature that’s never existed, to shocking a family in Manila and seeing the strides Canva has been making in health and education was inspiring.
This is why I’m sending out this message.

Empowering others.
Canva is an organisation I want to join,
'cause it’s a movement I want to join.
2. So... Why should you hire me?
Short of some experience in the following... 😎
I believe I...
I strive to live based on Canva’s values.
In all the work that I’ve pursued; whether that be volunteering at Generation Entrepreneur, running public speaking seminars for HS students, or starting my school's first social justice group, I’ve always wanted to be at the forefront of change for the better.
I believe it’s important to use whatever time we have on Earth 🌏to be a force for good and do good.
Whether that be by empowering those around us, or simply being a good person to strangers.
The pursuit of excellence is also something that highly resonates with me. Being the best person that I can be, constantly reading, learning and improving myself and others is core to who I am and the journey to learn more is one that I will always be on because:
And finally, making complex things simple and setting crazy big goals.
I like to make the connection between these two because there’s so much to achieve in this limited time we have on Earth but
we can only do so if we have the processes and systems to make these aims accessible and reachable.
(Which is one of the reasons I’m planning on not going to university this year,
to have more time on these things!)
But to make these big ambitions work, I set up my own processes to make the day to day easier and complex things simple.
To use my own thinking and
collaboration with others to
solve big problems.
Life never stops teaching.
Img: I personally like to actively learn by taking down notes on whatever books I read to double down on the info.
I constantly seek out of the box and challenging things to do and achieve,
Img: A day in the life, haha.
But in the end, all of this is
to do good in this world.
3. Let's Empower the World to Design.
I hope from my pitch you'd be keen on working together!
I truly believe in Canva's mission and would love to provide some kind of value to the organisation (if you believe I can, that is).
If it ends up working out, hope you guys would be keen for more? If it doesn't, I'll still be cheering on Canva from the sidelines!
(and perhaps buy stocks, should you guys ever launch an IPO... 😂)
Cheers,
Hannah Ahn
